Language Classes

All adult and youth Mandarin classes (for school-age children) are on Sundays, from 2:00 – 3:50 pm, with a 10-minute break from 2:50 – 3:00 pm. Minimum age for youth language classes is 5 years at the start of the school year.  (Parents are welcome to sit with their younger children to be involved in their learning process.) 

Language classes for preschoolers are on Sundays, from 4:00 – 4:50 pm.  

Classes are offered when there are sufficient enrollment. Those with low enrollment may be combined or canceled.

Youth Track A

For children whose parents are native Chinese speakers and who speak the language at home.

The program offers classes from the kindergarten to 10th grade level (KA-10A). Meizhou Huayu 美洲華語 is used as its core curriculum, with Living Mandarin 生活華語 also used in the lowest levels.

The program teaches traditional Chinese characters and uses zhuyin as its primary phonetic system but also introduces pinyin (romanized) phonetic system in the middle levels.

Chinese as a Second Language (CSL)

For children learning Chinese as a second language and with little or no exposure outside of Chinese school.

The program teaches traditional Chinese characters and uses pinyin (romanized) phonetic system.

All children and youth language classes are on Sundays, 2:00 - 3:50 pm.

Parent & Toddler Chinese

For preschool children and their caregivers 
 

This class exposes preschool children ages 3.5-5 years to Mandarin in a play-based environment. Along with a parent or guardian, students participate in interactive activities, singing, games, and crafts, all while learning words and phrases about their family and the world around them.

 

The curriculum engages children in age-appropriate language learning before they enroll in a 2-hour language class.

Adult Chinese as a Second Language

For adults interested in learning the Chinese language and being a part of a community of learners.

A class for first-time learners (Adult 1) is offered every year, and continuing classes (Adult 2 and higher) are offered when there is enough interest and enrollment. 

The program uses Chinese Link (traditional characters) as its core text and pinyin (romanized) phonetic system. The textbook is accompanied by audio resources (Level 1 and Level 2).
